| Soul/Student How will people know you in this world? Name: Yoshi "T" Takahashi Age: 18 Gender: Male Image is everything...Isnt it? Height and weight: 5'2'', 175 lbs Hair and eye color: Big, yellow hair, brown eyes Appearance: Yoshi is a short young man. That, coupled with his scrawny physique and lack of real musculature, makes for a pretty physically unimposing person. At least his hair is big. Apparently modeled somewhat from American rock bands from the eighties, his hair has been styled to oblivion in an attempt to be impossibly large, perhaps as some sort of compensation. He's got a relatively average looking face with unremarkable features, otherwise. His choice in clothing has only two settings: "blend in with the crowd" and "what the heck is that?" The former is pretty easy to explain. Shorts or jeans and a T-shirt of some kind, the basic outfit of people who are going out. On stage, or pretty much everywhere that could possibly be construed as on stage, is when the latter outfits come out. Vests, tattered jeans, black boots, picks attached to the fingers of a special glove, all create an outlandish alter-ego effect; it even somehow makes his hair seem larger, if that were possible. How strong is your resolve? Personality: Yoshi has the potential to be two different people, depending on whether or not he has a guitar in his hands. Normally, Yoshi is a quiet, relatively average person. He tends not to draw a crowd, peferring to stay on the sidelines. Very little can get him riled up or excited; for the most part, he tends to maintain his cool no matter what the situation or, failing that, at least avoid panicking. He also tends to have a high tolerance for "wierd," accepting pretty much any explanation sent his way so long as it is somewhat logical. However, that also means he can be gullible at times, since he will accept pretty much any explanation sent his way so long as it is somewhat logical. One of the few things he seems to get really passionate about is music. Furthermore, once he has an instrument in his hands, he's a completely different person. His personal favorite, and the only one he has any practical experience in, is the guitar, though when pressed he could make random notes on a few others. He is an extremely dab hand when it comes to guitar; understandable, since much of his free time is spent in practice. When he's playing, he puts his heart and soul into it, playing with all the showmanship of a professional rock star. Suddenly, he's out to be the center of attention, rolling over everyone in the room with his rockin' skills. He even begins talking like a rockstar, with an inexplicably raspy voice and a lot of "baby"s randomly strewn about his speech. Strengths:
- Even-Keeled: Not a lot gets to this guy. I mean, aside from the obvious: emergencies, extreme drama, things like that. For the most part, Yoshi's got a gift of perspective that often comes with being in the background of things.
- Trusting: You say you're a psychic who can see ghosts and who's sworn to fight them? Yeah, all right. One part understanding, one part apathy, Yoshi's got a knack for accepting ludicrous stories at face value.
- Loyal to Friends: For the most part. He won't do something like fake an alibi or die for them, but he is not the kind of person to leave people out in the rain. If it is within reason, he will gladly stop to help people.
- Passionate: Aside from music, it is very hard to get him passionate about anything. But once it happens, he's unstoppable.
Weaknesses:
- Gullible: See "Trusting" above. The only difference between the two is whether or not the person telling the ludicrous story happens to be lying.
- 1-0 Personality: Yoshi tends to shuttle back and forth between "borderline apathy" and "flames of youthful passion," with little to nothing in the interim. Granted, his personality gravitates towards the former most of the time, but at any given moment something could come along to incite his passion and/or bring out "Rocker Yoshi."
- Lackadaisacal: There is such a thing as being too chill. Sometimes, his calm, uncaring approach to things strikes others as unnatural or inappropriate, especially when it comes to pass that something comes along that nessecitates some kind of action.
- Short-sighted: Personality wise. Yoshi characterizes himself as a "present" kind of dude. What this means in practice is, he'll often just do whatever he pleases without a care as to what lies in the future. He's struck by whims almost daily.
With every past there is a future History: Born to musical parents, Yoshi was understandably expected to be a musician, or at least have a natural appreciation for it. It turns out, he did both. From an early age, he was a gifted student, if not nessecarily talented with anything. He moved from instrument to instrument, trying to pick up the basics, before he finally settled on the guitar, the only one he seemed to have any knack for. From then on, he was solely devoted to the practice of rock music. Aside from that, his life was pretty normal. He got average grades, had a small circle of friends, generally didn't make trouble for himself or wander too far into other people's trouble. Unlike most people with latent psychic talents, he didn't start out by seeing ghosts. His talents were solely focused on the guitar, and whatever meager energies he possessed were devoted to channeling his soul through his strings. It was unintentional; he just took the whole "putting your heart and soul in your music" thing too literally. But it paid off, at least in the short term; somehow he had managed to reach a level of musicality that his peers couldn't hope to touch. Unfortunately, it was around this time he began to notice strange things were happening. People were getting hurt around him in ways that seemed to defy explanation, so much so that even he couldn't just ignore them. The more he convinced himself it wasn't his problem, and the more he devoted himself to practice, the more often the incidents happened. Of course, he never really drew the conclusion that it was his fault, but it was just wierd. It was during one of these "incidents" that a good friend of his was killed. It was attributed to a freak accident in his house, but when, on an unexplained hunch, Yoshi went over to his friend's house, he saw glimpses of things he couldn't possibly explain. He could have sworn he had seen ghosts hanging around, including an all too brief visit by some strange person in black robes. Something unusual was happening in Karakura, and for the first time in a long while, Yoshi was determined to find out what. Written sample: - Quote :
- It was one of those days where one expected something to happen, but it probably wouldn't. Days like this were often spent doing nothing, waiting for adventure to just come waltzing in through the front door. For Yoshi, days like this meant the exact same thing they meant yesterday; time to practice playing and forget about anything else.
His fingers worked frenetically as he tried to play his way through Facemelter 101, a relatively poorly written rock song by a relatively unknown band, the only saving grace of it being that it had an incredibly difficult solo partway through which made it basically a rite of passage for any budding guitarist. He worked his left hand up and down the fretboard, and he was greeted with a pleasant kaleidoscope of sounds. His right hand was a blur of activity, the picks attached to his fingers plucking strings with mechanical precision. And all the while, his face was set in a scowl, as though he were chiding his hands to move faster.
Suddenly, the lights dimmed. Yoshi faltered, taking his eyes off the strings, as his ears seemed to pick up something. Was that a scream? It sounded like an animal of some sort. Whatever it was, it was pissed at something. He made his way to the window and looked outside. It was a pretty quiet night. Pretty deserted, too. Yoshi wondered if anyone else heard that noise. Suddenly, there it was again, louder than before. Just what was going on down there?
