Shinigami character information and ranks.

First division:
"The jacks of all trades"
The first division are the generalists. Their skills are spread out equally across all aspects of being a shinigami from Hakuda to Kido to Zanjutsu. No single member of the division excells drastically in any area but within that is their strength. Alone they are formidable, together they are deadly. As a result they serve directly under the captain commander!

Second division:
"The silence and the shadows"
The second division trains its officers gruellingly to strengthen their bodies and minds. Before long a new recruit will know how to fly through the air without a sound and sneak up on an enemy and assassinate them in only a few seconds. Because of this they are the first choice for jobs that require the utmost subtlety and precision.

Fourth division
"The angels of life and death"
Whether you need a cut closing or your body put back together after an unfortunate accident with an explosive hollow, the fourth division is the only division with members capable of healing such intense injuries. Beware however, they may have the ability to heal but those abilities can be altered to do harm just as effectively.

Ninth division:
"The divine protectors"
The ninth division overlooks the security of both the rukongai and the seireitei itself. The members of the division are in charge of patrols and guard the senkaimon gate entrances. They are also the publishers of the seireitei news magazine.

Eleventh division:
"The dogs of war"
The eleventh division is full of shinigami who excell in physical combat whether it be zanjustu of hakuda. However most arent very skill with kido, very few of them can use spells effectively. Unfortunately almost all of them came from bad backgrounds and have shady pasts, because of this other division's usually have some prejudism towards them.

Twelfth division:
"The masterminds"
The twelfth division know everything about anything and if they dont they will do everything they can until they do. Behind the walls of the twelfth division countless experiments are carried out and a number of inventions are created in order to aid the gotei thirteen. Sadly they are often singled out like the eleventh division because of their weird lust for data.

If a division has the words "No given speciality" under their number then the first person to join that division will have the ability to choose that division's speciality. Please make sure that it isnt similar to any of the other divisions.

Basic information
Shinigami, or Death gods are spiritual beings with the power to purify the souls of the dead and send them on to the soul society. A shinigami's power grow's in unison with the shinigami in question, eventually a shinigami may attain the release known as shikai and exceptionally able shinigami will attain the final release or bankai. A shinigami's soul is comprised in two halves; the first is their own self, their personality, beliefs, etc. the other is known as a Zanpakuto spirit. This second half has an entirely different image and persona and is also the source of a zanpakuto's abilities. In accordance with this being holding no form in the outter world they reside in a corporeal world created from the shinigami's subconscious, as such it is completely unique to that shinigami as is their zanpakuto spirit. In order to attain higher states of power the two soul halves must meet as one. In order to do this a shinigami must first find their way into their individual inner world, the next step is to confront their zanpakuto spirit and more often than not best them in combat.

In order to preserve the worlds balance of life and death the shinigami are constantly battling with the beings known as hollows and their formidable evolutionary others the arrancar. Because of this the shinigami have formed an organisation of military specialist's known as the Gotei 13 or 13 Court guard squads. Based on the power level of the shinigami they will hold a rank within one of the thirteen squads, the lower the rank number the more powerful the seat holder. The strongest of the shinigami hold the rank of captain and are the military leaders of the gotei 13. The leader of these renowned figures is known as the captain commander and is also typically the captain of squad one. Each division in addition to a captain should also have a vice-captain who will serve as the stand in leader should a captain be unavailable.

The home of the shinigami and also the souls that have been purified is known as the soul society. This world is connected to both hueco mundo and the human world but in order to travel from each world there is a specific type of transportation method needed. In order to move from the soul society into the human world and back again a senkaimon gate is needed. The senkaimon can only be opened with the use of a hell butterfly, which in turn can be used as a communication device between long distances or even between worlds.

Noble families
There are three noble families within the walls of the seireitei; The Oda, Takenawa and Kanatsuji families. Each family is very different in regards to the general personalities of its family members and the way the rest of the soul society see's them so be sure to read this section carefully should you wish to be a noble.

Takenawa:
The Takenawa are strong believers of justice, however their idea's of what justice is depend on each member of the family. Some believe justice to be what the government say's it is while other's believe in their own style of justice. Being the oldest of the three families they have old fashioned views and morals and also expect respect from anybody lower than themselves in political standing. The Takenawa family is also the noble house tied to the Onmitsukido. The family is made up of four males and four female members. (the relation of each member must be decided between each of the other family members.)

Oda:
The Oda family is by far the most mysterious of the three families. From what they show to the public this noble house seem's to be like the others; they have high political standings, are slightly mixed in beliefs and hold an air of purposfulness and authority. However this families past hasn't exactly been spotless. Records of criminal activity from certain family members is known to exist, one such case involving a potential uprising of rukongai criminals. Because of their past nobody is quite sure what to make of the members of this family, to some of the family members it may seem like a harsh prejudism born from ill favored ancestors but there may just be one or two noble criminals here. This family has five male and three female members.

Kanatsuji:
Due to horrible luck the Kanatsuji family's male population has decreased over the centuries while the female population has grown, as a result there are now only two male member's left. Unlike the other noble families the Kanatsuji have a very laid back attitude to being noble's. As a result each member differs in personality greatly. Dont be mistaken however, this family is more like a family than any of the others. They look out for each other and recognise the fact that they are all family and as such you will very rarely find them fighting with each other.
